Getting started with Coach Nova
Nova is a study coach for your child. It explains, draws, sets practice and remembers what they've worked on. It guides them to the answer rather than doing the work for them. This page takes about five minutes to read.
For parents: your first ten minutes
- Sign in to your dashboard at /parent.html with the email and password you chose.
- Check the settings. Make sure your child's grade is right; Nova pitches everything at it. Choose whether Nova may draw pictures, search a set list of educational sites, and listen to your child's voice. All of these can change at any time.
- Add a private note if it helps, for example "test on fractions on Friday" or "has been anxious about science". Nova uses it quietly and never shows it to your child.
- Give your child their login code and the app's address: .
What you'll see
After each study session, a short summary appears in your dashboard: what they worked on, how much help they needed, and what to do next. You can generate a Weekly Brief and, after a few weeks, a Monthly Review. You see summaries, not the full conversations. Your child is told this in plain words.
Once a week, the dashboard asks three quick questions about how it's going. Your answers shape what we fix next.
For your child: how to use Nova
Getting in
- Open on a phone, tablet or laptop and type your login code. You'll stay signed in on that device.
- On an iPhone or iPad, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, so Nova opens like an app.
- The first time, Nova asks a few questions about how you like things explained.
Four ways to learn
Good things to try first
- "I have a test on [topic] on Friday. Can you help me get ready?"
- "I don't get [something from class]. Can you show me?"
- Take a photo of a homework question you're stuck on and ask for a hint, not the answer.
- "Make me flashcards for [topic]."
Handy to know
- New topic starts something fresh. Your recent topics are on Home (and in the side menu on a bigger screen), so you can always go back.
- Wrap up for today when you're done. Nova sums up what you covered and what to do next time.
- Work it out on a practice question opens a scratchpad for rough work, which you can send to Nova.
- If a parent, brother, sister or friend uses your login, turn on Someone else is here so their messages don't count as yours.
- Nova can make mistakes. If something looks wrong, say so; it will check again. For anything important, check with your teacher too.
Privacy, in one paragraph
Your family's information is used only to coach your child and show you how it's going. It is never sold or used for advertising. Conversations are processed by the AI services listed in the privacy notice. You can turn features off, or delete everything, from your dashboard at any time.
